SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

SDG 16 is dedicated to promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions, recognizing that these principles are essential for fostering a future characterized by equity and sustainability. With the emerging use of artificial intelligence (AI) in our everyday lives, the UN envisions a world in which “AI could open up tremendous opportunities for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”.

Challenge Overview

The Challenge

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to technology that enables computers to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. But here’s the cool part: AI isn’t just about replacing human skills—it can boost our creativity and expand our thinking. By handling routine tasks and analyzing vast amounts of data, AI frees us up to dream bigger, think more deeply, and push the boundaries of innovation.

Why It Matters

AI Magic in Your Everyday Life:

  • Voice Assistants: Ever chatted with Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant? They’re like your digital BFFs, using AI to understand and respond to whatever you throw their way. Ask them anything, and they’ve got you covered!
  • Video Games: Meet the AI-powered characters in your favorite games! They’re not just following a script; they’re smart enough to react to your moves and make the game way more exciting.
  • Social Media: Instagram and TikTok have their own AI sidekicks that learn what you love and show you posts and videos that you’ll totally geek out over. It’s like having a personal curator for your feed!
  • Recommendation Systems: Ever wondered how Netflix and YouTube seem to know exactly what you’re in the mood for? That’s AI working its magic to suggest the perfect movies and videos based on your past binge sessions.

Your Mission

Your challenge is to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to make your community more inclusive, peaceful, or sustainable. Consider how you can use new or existing AI software to improve the world around you.
