SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation:

SDG 6 is one of the United Nations' goals aimed at ensuring everyone has access to clean water and proper sanitation. This targets:

  • Clean Water: Everyone to have access to water that is affordable, safe to drink and use without risking their health.
  • Sanitation: Everyone to have access to safe and clean facilities for personal hygiene.

Challenge Overview:

Welcome to an exciting opportunity to help make a global impact! We need your creativity to design a tool or machine that can transform dirty water into clean, safe water for people.

Imagine a device that could purify polluted rivers or dirty puddles—how would you design it to be effective and user-friendly?

Many regions across the world face challenges in accessing clean water. For instance, in some areas, people may have to go to great lengths to find safe water sources. Your innovative solutions could help address this critical issue and support the goal of everyone having access to clean water.

Your challenge is to design a tool or machine that effectively cleans dirty water. Here are some key aspects to consider:

  • Functionality: How will your design remove contaminants such as germs, dirt, and pollutants from the water?
  • Affordability: Your solution should be cost-effective and accessible to communities with limited resources.
  • Ease of Use: Consider how someone unfamiliar with your device could operate it easily.
  • Environmental Impact: Design a solution that benefits people while minimizing risks of environmental harm.

Real-World Examples:

  • Lifestraw: A portable filter that allows users to drink directly from contaminated sources, removing harmful particles and pathogens.
  • Water Purification Tablets: Compact tablets used to treat water by killing germs, commonly utilized in emergencies and areas with limited access to clean water.
  • Seabin: Seabin is an innovative device designed to autonomously collect floating debris and oil from marinas, improving water quality in coastal areas
