WSI Citi Foundation Youth Economic Development Challenge, SDG 8WSI

Develop a digital app idea to help kids find jobs in their community and learn new skills.

Imagination League (ages 5 - 12)

Explore how we can make work better for everyone and help our communities grow and thrive!

What is SDG 8? SDG 8 stands for Sustained, Inclusive, and Sustainable Economic Growth, Full and Productive Employment, and Decent Work for All. In simpler terms, it’s all about making sure everyone can find good jobs and have opportunities to succeed. It also means creating jobs that are safe, fair, and rewarding.

Why is it Important? Imagine if everyone had a chance to do work that they enjoy and that helps them support themselves and their families. When people have good jobs, they can earn money to buy what they need, and they can help their communities grow and become better places to live. Good jobs also mean that people can feel happy and proud of their work!

Your challenge is to think about a job or a business you’d like to create. How can this job or business help people in your community? What makes this job special and good for everyone?

Need Inspiration? Here are some ideas to help you think creatively about how your idea can contribute to decent work and economic growth:

  • The Helping Hands Cafe: Imagine a cozy café where kids and adults can learn to cook and serve food together. This café could provide jobs for community members and teach young people valuable cooking and customer service skills. It’s a fun way to bring people together while learning new skills
  • The Creative Crafts Studio: Envision a studio where people can make and sell their own crafts, like jewelry, art, or toys. This studio could offer jobs for craft makers and provide a place for people to learn about running a small business. It’s a fun way to turn creativity into a job that everyone can enjoy!
  • The Youth Tech Hub: Imagine a tech hub where young people can learn about computers, robotics, and coding. This hub could provide jobs for tech experts and give kids the chance to explore exciting technology and prepare for future careers. It’s a place where learning about tech can lead to great opportunities!

Use your imagination and creativity to come up with a great idea that will help people and make your community shine. Have fun with your challenge, and remember, every great idea starts with you!
