Here are the top competitors in the 2022-23 academic year NFTE World Series of Innovation.

EY Accelerating Environmental Sustainability Challenge - 2022

The Challenge: Design a solution to help communities, governments, or companies protect, restore or promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.

Winners

  • First Place: Flex Charge, advances SDG 15 by designing a mechanically charged battery that reduces the amount of earth metals required. Developed by 15-year-old Jonah Nazarian from the Brentwood School in California. See their video here.
  • Second Place: Wonnit, advances SDG 15 by launching an app that rewards users for donating recyclable textiles and fabrics. Developed by a 16-year-old Đỗ Quỳnh Anh from VNU-HCM High School for the Gifted in Vietnam. See their video here.
  • Third Place: pPower, advances SDG 15 by developing a system that can convert organic biomaterials into electric power. Developed by 16-year-old Gia Minh Vo, 16-year-old Tri Anh Ha, and 15-year-old Duc Ang Nguyen from Concordia International School in Hanoi, Shattuck St. Mary's in Minnesota, and John Bapst Memorial High School in Maine respectively. Finalists

  • A Second Life, advances SDG 15 by building a web app that connects donors and requestors of school textbooks and supplies to reduce paper waste and deforestation. Developed by 16-year-old Aishani Bal from Denmark High School in Georgia. See their video here.
  • Avis, advances SDG 15 by launching a bird identification app that allows citizen volunteers to assist researchers in building ornithological survey data. Developed by 13-year-old Prisha Goyal from Khan World School in India. See their video here.
  • GreenQode, advances SDG 15 by leveraging the power of cloud technologies and QR codes to communicate relevant information about local biodiversity in green spaces. Developed by 17-year-old Arjun Sharma from The Shri Ram School in India.
  • Harvest Helper, advances SDG 15 by utilizing recycled econyl nets to prevent crop damage from insects and promote sustainable agriculture. Developed by 22-year-old Analisa Burke, 15-year-old Kayla Shin and 16-year-old Davis Kim from North Hollywood High School and Granada Hills High School in California respectively.   • Quaternary Filters, advances SDG 15 by improving existing dams with redesigned filters that process toxic contaminates and collect recyclable materials. Submitted by 14-year-old Brayden Hayes from School for the Highly Gifted in Texas. See their video here.
  • Re-banatex, advances SDG 15 by converting banana waste matter into recycled fabrics to promote sustainable fashion. Developed by 22-year-old Shauri Kalibatha Jonathan, 22-year-old Rachel Pitie, and 22-year-old Cyubahiro Valentin Norbert from Integrated Polytechnic Regional College in Rwanda. See their video here.
  • SoiSoi, advances SDG 15 by harnessing organic waste matter from restaurants to convert into fertilizer and distribute in viably fertile communities. Developed by 16-year-old Iyshly Chen, 16-year-old Davina Liang, and 16-year-old Kelly Luo from Abraham Lincoln High School in California. See their video here.
