Here are the top competitors in the 2022-23 academic year NFTE World Series of Innovation.

Link Logistics Green Buildings Challenge - 2022

The Challenge: Design a solution that helps buildings become more environmentally sustainable or promotes the use of "green" building materials.

Winners

  • First Place: VanGreen, advances SDG 11 by developing environmentally friendly paint for use in interiors and exteriors of homes. Developed by 17-year-old Sarah McGibeny from Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Florida. See their video here.
  • Second Place: Seaweed Solutions, advances SDG 11 by utilizing recycled seaweed for use in reinforcement and construction materials in Caribbean countries. Developed by 20-year-old Brent Piper from Howard University in the District of Columbia. See their video here.
  • Third Place: Pure Eco, advances SDG 11 by utilizing the power of mycelium to polyester fabric substitutes for use in temporary structural buildings. Developed by 16-year-old Connie Huang and 16-year-old Nancy Galicia from Galileo Academy of Science and Technology in California. See their video here.

Finalists

  • AirStacks, advances SDG 11 by launching a B2B service that focuses on improving indoor air quality. Developed by 14-year-old Sara Chhabra, 14-year-old Shaurya Sane and 15-year-old Nathan Hon from Monta Vista High School in California. See their video here.
  • Algae Power, advances SDG 11 by creating microalgae panels to artificially replicate photosynthesis to act as carbon skinks, biofixators, and oxygen producers in buildings. Developed by 13-year-old Sofía Castrejón Ponce de León from MATI Talent Institute in Mexico. See their video here.
  • BioBuilds, advances SDG 11 by launching a mobile app that offers building construction guidance and green furniture shopping to meet LEED certification standarsds. Developed by 13-year-old Do Le Tuan Kiet, 13-year-old Tran Anh Kiet, and 13-year-old Nguyen Dong Nhi from IGC School Thai Binh Duong in Vietnam. See their video here.
  • Shao Orchid, advances SDG 11 by redesigning a sustainable dormitory to promote environmentally conscious building design while advancing social wellbeing. Developed by 16-year-old Lillian Ho and 15-year-old Andrew Joseph Shih from I-Shou International School in Taiwan. See their video here.
  • Soilmate, advances SDG 11 by creating a composting bin system to convert typical household food waste into nutrient rich fertilizers. Developed by 15-year-old Nithiphat Tangprasert, 15-year-old Naphut Nilkamhang, 15-year-old Takeru Phansumrit, and 16-year-old Tharit Chalermvongsavej from Satit Prasarnmit International Programme in Thailand.   • The Green Pillar, advances SDG 11 by developing eco-friendly work environments in existing buildings. Developed by 17-year-old William Beardslee and 17-year-old Heitor Penna Chaves from Coral Gables Senior High School in Florida. See their video here.
  • Vulcan, advances SDG 11 by utilizing dehydrated mushroom mycelium as substitute for common construction materials such as cement and insulation. Developed by 16-year-old Ethan Lu, 16-year-old Pranay Gangaram, 15-year-old Ritu Kandi, and 15-year-old Pranav Jaikanth. See their video here.
